it's hard to update the happenings with such little time at home, but here's a small snap shot of life in guatemala.
work: i absolutely love the school i'm working for. my colleagues are fantastic and the school has a very warm, welcoming feel to it. my students are amazing! the job itself has a bit of a learning curve and i knew coming on board that it wasn't ideal, and more of a foot in the door. overall, it's going well and i'm positive knowing that what i'm learning is a great tool for my future general ed. teaching at the next international school hired on with. within the next few years, i will be back in the gen ed. classroom with ever more tricks to being a better teacher.
home: the apartment is beautiful. full of character, life, delicious smells & comfort. ben has been experimenting with cooking and pretty much kicking it's ass. the thought of coming home brings a sense of peace to the hectic day in the city. i love our home.
school: ben is taking a biology class online and studying like crazy. i'm not envious of his work and he's keeping himself busy with his class, cooking, cleaning and taking care of all house needs.
transportation: let's just say that fears are being conquered daily here. the teacher bus picks me up first in the morning, and drops me off last. it's about a 45 minute commute (on a good day) and the ride is full of "oh my god, this bus kills me" "is anyone else feeling nauseous?" "this teacher bus makes me feel sick everyday" and many, many more... in "real" life, i would panic and get off the bus no matter what crazy country i'm in, but somehow, i'm managing to conquer my fear. i've been vocal about my phobia, yet not to the point of annoyance, and i have ALL fingers crossed EVERYDAY that it's all talk, and the teacher bus will remain vomit free. that being said, it is an extremely nauseous ride taken twice daily, and i'm pretty darn proud of myself.
food: love it! like i said earlier, ben has been doing a great job of coming up with super yummy meals. i've taken a few photos and will upload them later.
that's all folks. i hope that gives you an idea of our little lives in the giant city.
much love...
Awesome that you are conquering your fear !proud of you ! Miss you! Say hello to Ben for me.
Isn't it funny you don't know what you have until it's gone. I really miss our intermittent weekend hang outs. I still want to pick up the phone and call you. We will have to Skype one of these days.
